Jinko claims 24.79% efficiency for n-type monocrystalline cell

The Chinese manufacturer said the achieved efficiency is a world record for a large-size contact-passivated solar cell. The result, which was certified by Germany's Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH), improves the company's previous record by 0.6%.

Chinese vertically integrated solar module manufacturer JinkoSolar has achieved a 24.79% conversion efficiency for a n-type TOPCon monocrystalline silicon cell.

The company claims the result, which was certified by Germany’s Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH), is a world record for a large-size contact-passivated solar cell. JinkoSolar broke its own record reported in January, when the claimed efficiency was 24.2%.

In May 2018, the reported efficiency of the cell was 23.95%, while it November 2017 it stood at 23.45%, with both efficiencies certified by the Photovoltaic and Wind Power Systems Quality Test Center at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The cell is relying on a monocrystalline silicon (mono-Si) substrate with size of 267.72cm2 grown by the Czochralski method.

To achieve this result, the module maker said it applied several technologies such as passivating contact technologies, advanced diffusion system, surface passivation and advanced anti-reflection technologies, and a series of material upgrade were integrated into the cell process. “The record-breaking mono-crystalline silicon solar cell will be gradually applied to product production,” the company stated.

In January, JinkoSolar specified the cell is based on its HOT cell design and relying on tunnel oxide passivating contact technology.
