NTPC tenders 1 GW of grid-connected PV capacity in India

Prospective developers have until Nov. 18 to submit bids for projects anywhere in India, with PV cells and modules from any country. The projects are to be set up on develop-build-demonstrate-transfer basis.

Indian state-owned power generator NTPC has started accepting bids to build 1 GW of grid-connected solar projects throughout the country. All of the installations will be set up on a develop-build-demonstrate-transfer basis.

The projects – which can be ground-mounted arrays or floating PV systems – will be developed under the “open” category, which means that developers can choose to procure PV modules from domestic or foreign manufacturers.

Single developers can compete for 50-300 MW of available capacity, in multiples of 10 MW. The bids must be accompanied by bank guarantees of INR 20 million ($282,220) for 50 MW, INR 50 million for 60-110 MW, INR 100 million for 120-220 MW, and INR 200 million for 230-300 MW.

To be eligible, bidders should have average annual turnover of no less than INR 2,100 million over the last three fiscal years.

The scope of work will include design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, storage, installation and commissioning. The selected developers will also operate and maintain the completed projects for a period of three years.

The technical requirements include the provision of module mounting arrangements with tracking for ground-mounted systems, as well as floaters for floating solar systems.
