Hydrogen to go

Germany-based Wystrach has developed a solution to install hydrogen refueling stations wherever they are needed. The 350-bar hydrogen solution is also suitable for heavy-duty vehicles.

Wystrach – a German manufacturer of compressed gas cylinder bundles, natural gas storage systems, gas containers and transport pallets – has launched WyRefueler, a mobile hydrogen refueling station solution.

The. new tech is suitable for a range of applications. It consists of two components: the tank and the gas station container, a company spokeswoman told pv magazine. They are built as swap bodies and can be transported independently. The 350-bar hydrogen refueling solution is not suitable for cars, but is ideal for heavy-duty vehicles such as buses, trains, trucks, construction machinery, and transport vehicles at ports and airports.

“The system is set up or dismantled within a day and only requires a 63A connection,” said Wolfgang Wolter, managing director of technology and sales for Wystrach.

The basic variant consists of a 20-foot tank container, 313 kilograms of useful hydrogen volume, 88 kilograms of buffer storage, and a refuelable amount of 180 kilograms of hydrogen per day. The WyRefueler is also equipped with an intelligent control system.

“The system can be modified according to customer requirements, for example with a larger tank container volume, a stronger compressor or additional cooling,” said Wolter.

The gas station container can remain standing for longer, while the tank container has to be refilled with hydrogen or replaced when it is empty. Where the hydrogen ultimately comes from and whether it is green is in the hands of the operator, the company spokeswoman added.

The system is “deliberately designed to be flexible” and can be configured in various ways, which is why the spokeswoman did not want to name a flat rate for the mobile station solution, which is put together individually for each customer. Wystrach also offers a comprehensive service and consulting package, as well as training for the independent operation of the systems, she added. The station is monitored around the clock via remote control.

The solution has been successfully tested in the Netherlands, the company claims. Transport service provider Breytner has also tested the Wyfueler for several weeks.
